A priceless artifact mysteriously vanishes from a fort. What happened to the Irish Crown Jewels?
The Irish Crown Jewels were kept in a strongroom, guarded by a loyal officer. Still, they disappeared without a trace, and the door showed no signs of forced entry.
The Irish Crown Jewels, adorned with 394 precious stones, were housed in Dublin Castle. The Jewels' keeper, Sir Arthur Vicars, often showed them off to his friends. On 6 July 1907, Vicars realized they were missing. Oddly, the safe key was not stolen, and the door to the strongroom was undamaged. Despite a massive investigation and a £1000 reward, the jewels were never recovered. The mystery deepens as Vicars accused his second-in-command, Francis Shackleton, brother of the famous explorer, of the theft, but it was never proven.
