Despite no signs of struggle, the crew vanished. The ship sailed on its own for 11 days before being found.
On November 1872, the merchant ship Mary Celeste set sail from New York to Genoa, Italy. A month later, it was found adrift off the coast of Portugal, with its crew of seven, the captain, his wife, and their two-year-old daughter nowhere to be found. Despite the crew's disappearance, their belongings and the ship's cargo remained untouched. The ship's logbook's last entry, made 10 days before its discovery, gave no indication of trouble.
