The Voynich Manuscript: an unreadable book. Who wrote it, and why can't we decode it?
An ancient manuscript, filled with cryptic drawings and text in an unknown language. Despite the best efforts of cryptographers, its contents remain a mystery.
The Voynich Manuscript, named after the Polish-American antiquarian bookseller who acquired it in 1912, is a 240-page book written in an entirely unique language. Its pages are filled with bizarre drawings of alien plants, naked women, and astrological symbols. Despite being studied by some of the world's top cryptographers, including those who successfully decoded World War II ciphers, the Voynich Manuscript remains unreadable. Carbon dating places its creation to the early 15th century, but nothing is known about its author or purpose. Is it a lost language, an elaborate hoax, or something else entirely?
